4×5 Film Holders

Film holders are an important part of a good 4x5 view camera system. Without them it is impossible to properly expose your film. Most 4x5 film holders are designed to hold two pieces of film (one on either side) in a completely light tight manner until positioned in the camera back and readied for exposure. Make sure to find good quality film holders, otherwise you could be frustratingly searching for that light leak that keeps showing up on all your negatives.

4x5 film holders should be designed to allow you to firmly but smoothly pull out the cover when you’re ready to make your exposure. If they are too tight you could end up knocking your camera off subject while trying to remove it. Just as bad, if they are too loose they could fall out or be unintentionally pulled out before you were ready, exposing and ruining your sheet of film.
