Graflex

Graflex came into the 4x5 view camera business all the way back in 1912 when it introduced it’s first camera, the Speed Graphic. The Speed Graphic was designed as a “press camera” and that tradition has carried on through many of the Graflex camera designs. This type of view camera is typically very compact, light weight and easy to setup and use quickly but often lacks some of the attributes of other full size view cameras such as large ranges of rise and tilt movements or the capability of extending the bellows a great distance. However many people, especially those just getting into 4x5 photography find the price point to be very agreeable.

With it’s ease of use and portability this makes a great first 4x5 camera. Add those attributes to the fact that a good useable version of one of these cameras can often be won on auction for $150 or less and this is an excellent option to consider.
